Culinary Kayak Experiences

Beach Feast

This unique culinary kayak experience will take guests off the beaten track to learn about the Island shellfish industry and gain hands-on experience on how to prepare PEI shellfish. You will be led on a tranquil paddle by Heather Gunn McQuillan, a local veterinarian and kayak guide. Here you will explore a quiet island estuary by kayak in search of amazing bird life, including eagles, osprey, kingfishers, blue heron, seabirds and waterfowl. After we learn about and experience the wildlife and ecology of our gentle Island, we will land on a beautiful, secluded white sand beach nestled between the sand dunes.
Upon your arrival to the beach you will be greeted by Jarrod Gunn McQuillan, a provincial shellfish specialist who has judged oyster shucking competitions for more than a decade and has participated in organizing the International Shellfish Festival on PEI for years. Here you will enjoy beach-style seating with canopy cover and the opportunity to sample local Prince Edward Island shellfish. Jarrod will teach guests how to shuck oysters and you will have the opportunity of joining him to learn how to prepare your 5-course lighthouse keepers lunch, enjoying the bounty of the sea over a wood-burning fire.
The lunch will consist of all local products with a special focus on shellfish including; oysters (raw and grilled), mussels, clams, scallops, PEI potato salad, corn on the cob and Nature Space’s special beachside chowder. You are are encouraged to get involved to learn about the industry and more importantly learn how to prepare these delicacies. If you would rather sit back and relax while the food is being prepared, this location also offers opportunities for a quiet beach walk, sunbathing, a swim in the warm Gulf of St. Lawrence waters or a chance to sit back and listen to stories of the Island shellfish industry. This experience will be approximately 4-4.5 hours in length and will be experiential and interactive. You will be served a Lighthouse Keepers 5-course lunch that will leave you feeling satisfied!
